Asian range

The high and low of the quiet hours between New York's close and London's open: 17:00 to 03:00 New York time. The crowd marks it, parks its stops just past it, and London or New York usually breaks one side.

The hours

The bot's trading day starts at 17:00 New York, when the previous day closes. The Asian range is every 15-minute candle from then until 03:00 New York, when London opens. It covers Sydney, Tokyo, Singapore and Hong Kong, the hours when the dollar pairs and gold usually move least.

On the USDCHF signal of 14 October 2026 the Asian range ran from 0.83171 to 0.83302. London and New York then took price up through the high, the stop hunt the signal traded against.

How big it is

Measured against the average daily range, the Asian range is a little over a third of the day on the euro, pound, franc and Canadian dollar, and about half on the yen, Aussie and kiwi, whose own sessions fall in those hours.

What the bot checks

Its first check, "Clear Asian range", asks for a contained session: a range no bigger than 60% of the average daily range that did not drift and close near one end. A tight, flat range is the one the crowd trusts, so it is the one with stops packed just past it. A range that has already trended is not a consolidation, and its edges mean less.

In the record: USDCHF sell, 14 October 2026, EURUSD buy, 22 October 2026, GBPUSD buy, 22 October 2026.

What happens at the break

London or New York breaks most sides of the range, and about half of those breaks are stop hunts that come back inside. The rest are breakouts that keep going. The bot cannot tell which at the break, so it waits for a 15-minute candle to close back inside: the close back.

Questions

What time is the Asian session in New York time?

For the bot, 17:00 to 03:00 New York: from the daily close to the London open. Other definitions use Tokyo's hours (about 19:00 to 04:00 New York); the idea is the same.

Why does the Asian range matter if I trade London?

Because London's first move usually takes one side of it. The range's edges are where the night's stops sit, so they are the first thing London reaches for.
